Roasted cabbage

Cabbage is so convenient to have in the fridge, it has a long life, it's good boiled, raw, in a stir fry and roasted.  I'm sure it's good grilled too.

Roasted cabbage

Ingredients

1                                                                           Big cabbage, cut in 8
1/2 teaspoon                                                      Salt
1 teaspoon                                                          Chives
A zigzag                                                              Siracha (or to taste)
1 teaspoon                                                          Cilantro
Juice of half a lemon and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 °F.

Cut the cabbage in 8, keeping the core to make it easier to manipulate.  Arrange the pieces on a baking sheet, lined with parchment paper.   Season with 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of chives, a zigzag of siracha, half the juice of half a lemon and black pepper.  Brush evenly.

Roast for 10 minutes and flip gently.  Season another 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of chives, a zigzag of siracha and the remaining juice of half of a lemon.  Roast for 10 more minutes or until desired donness.

Voilà,  you have a 8 servings side dish.

Grandma's bread, made with milk

I'm making bread this morning.  Yesterday I asked aunt Jacinthe to give me Grandma's recipe and she took a picture of it.  I love to see grandma's hand writing and the way it is redacted.  I wonder if she wrote down her mom's instructions.  It doesn"t seem to be  from a book.  I'll have to ask around. I found yeast in the pantry with a 2017 expiration date.  I thought I would steep it in water with sugar and see if it still good or not.  After 10 minutes I was not sure so I thought I would take a picture and asked my aunt if she thinks it's ok.  By the time I got my phone I could see that it was good.  Lesson learned: don't toss your yeast before trying it out.
