Grandma's mashed potaoes

My grand mother was cooking carrots and turnip with her potatoes for my grandpa to eat veggies and it's what I do.  Over the years I came up with some personal touches.   My husband loves them.

Grandma's mashed potatoes

Ingredients

6                                                                           Red potatoes (not peeled)

2                                                                           Carrots

1                                                                           Turnip

1                                                                           Scallion (roughly chopped)

2 cloves                                                              Garlic (roughly chopped)

3/4 cup                                                              Vegetable broth

1 tablespoon                                                       Butter

1/4 cup                                                                Extra sharp cheddar cheese

Salt and pepper to taste.

Directions

Peel, cut roughly the 2 carrots and put them in a pot with 3/4 cup of broth.  Turn on the burner on high and keep on eye on it.  Meanwhile peel the turnip, cut roughly and add to the pot.  Wash the potatoes, cut them and add to the pot.  Last add the scallion and garlic.  Season with a little bit of salt and pepper but remember that the broth is probably salty and the cheese is too.  Cover and keep an eye on it.  When it boils lower down the heat to medium low and let cook for about 20 minutes or until fork tender.  Add the tablespoon of butter and the 1/4 cup of cheddar.  If it's too thick add some milk until desired consistency.

So good, let me know if you try it or a version of it.  Remember to eat veggies, make it à la you, eat healthy, be healthy and bon appétit!

Update 5/30/2021:

Today I had them with chicken meatballs

Grandma's bread, made with milk

I'm making bread this morning.  Yesterday I asked aunt Jacinthe to give me Grandma's recipe and she took a picture of it.  I love to see grandma's hand writing and the way it is redacted.  I wonder if she wrote down her mom's instructions.  It doesn"t seem to be  from a book.  I'll have to ask around. I found yeast in the pantry with a 2017 expiration date.  I thought I would steep it in water with sugar and see if it still good or not.  After 10 minutes I was not sure so I thought I would take a picture and asked my aunt if she thinks it's ok.  By the time I got my phone I could see that it was good.  Lesson learned: don't toss your yeast before trying it out.
